The South African Fund 4 Entertainment.

SAFE is a non-profit organization galvanizing the entertainment industry by creating positive, wide reaching initiatives together and delivering heartfelt support to our most severely affected people. SAFE is proudly administered by E.L.E. NPO IT021941/2014(6).

SAFE focuses its efforts on delivering food vouchers to people most negatively affected by job loss and lack of work due to cancelled events and closed venues. In due course, funding from different initiatives and distributions will be considered based on the needs of the industry.

SAFE has been spearheaded by a number of different businesses and individuals in the entertainment event sector. Each was considering their own initiatives to support the industry. It made sense to combine forces to achieve the maximum impact with ONE voice. SAFE has been created as a collective where the entire entertainment and event industry can participate.

All funds are raised on safelive.events (Powered by Howler). Various people and entities can create initiatives. These can be a simple promoter link to the general SAFE voucher page or their own standalone event(s). All funds raised go to the SAFE organisation fund.

Fundraising is raised through different initiatives, organised by members of the events and entertainment community. From online streaming events to heartfelt messages to support the cause. All organisers, DJs, artists, venues, suppliers, performers etc are encouraged to create and host their own initiatives pledging support to SAFE. SAFE itself is not the organiser of the initiatives, it is the NPO used to raise funds from the various initiatives.

Events hosted on the SAFE events platform can accept donations online or via ticket/voucher sales.

Of course, if you are hosting an event elsewhere and still want to donate to the SAFE cause, a SAFE Donation QR code and link can also be issued which you can share on whichever platform you’re communicating on.

In the short term, the hardest hit are be hourly paid workers. Barmen, waiters, technical setup crews, décor company’s set-up crews, security officers, cleaners, fencing staff, and more. The list is exhaustive, and the effect: potentially catastrophic.

Many thousands of these individuals are the main breadwinners in their households, and will find themselves with no income. In a short time, no income may mean no food.

For this reason, initial funding will, in partnership with Pick ‘n Pay Feed The Nation support these workers hardest hit – with food vouchers. These vouchers will allow them to go to their nearest Pick ‘n Pay for a hamper of essentials.

Each hamper is a basket of specific items at a cost to SAFE of R600.00 incl. VAT. The basket can feed a family of five for a month or longer, and includes:

Rice 10kg, Maize 5kg, Oil 2l, Sugar 2.5kg, Pilchards 6s, Peanut butter, Tea 100s, Samp & bean mix, Split peas, Packets of soup 5s, Powdered milk, Potatoes 4kg, Onions 4kg, Soap.

SAFE will work with nightlife and event supply chain companies to identify those in need and deliver these vouchers via their employers or former employers. In due course different initiatives and distributions will be determined based on the needs of the industry.

Wanting to create a SAFE support initiative?

Yes, please do! The more we have the better.

It’s simple, there are two ways:

  1. Simply request a SAFE rep link. You’ll get your own link to share with your community. Get in touch here to get going.
  2. Host a SAFE event. Here you’ll get your own event page setup from which you can invite your community and sell them SAFE tickets. Get in touch here to get going.

Anything you want! Dream away. Some ideas:

  1. Host a live steam event.
  2. Host a DJ set or band performance.
  3. Create a viral challenge. I.e donate R50, do a dance and challenge 5 friends online to reciprocate.
  4. Host an online talk or fitness class.
  5. Host a podcast.
  6. Or just get yourself a link, tell the SAFE unsung heroes story and ask your community to support you to support them!

If you need any help hosting an online/streamed event please get in touch. We’re ready to assist you!

This is a complex matter and something we are working on and are open to your suggestions or proposals. In principle funds raised via SAFE should all be donated. However we recognise that hosting events, even online may carry costs. We do consider possible structures which allow the host/creator to donate the majority whilst keeping a portion to cover the cost of hosting their initiative. Fixed costs will not be deductible but retaining an agreeable % share of the total proceeds will be considered. You are welcome to discuss this with us when setting up your initiative.
